Description of Event:

This 8-week virtual course offers foundational knowledge and guiding frameworks to help clinicians and therapists support people with IDD in their practice. 

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify how common mental health conditions may present in people with IDD while emphasizing strengths, abilities, and opportunities for growth in the therapeutic process.
2. Explore key considerations for effective assessment and treatment of people with IDD in talk therapy and counseling settings, focusing on enhancing wellbeing, fostering resilience, and tailoring approaches to meet specific needs and interests.
3. Adapt therapeutic modalities to engage people with IDD in meaningful ways, ensuring each session builds on strengths and abilities to promote emotional wellbeing and positive change.

This program is co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Psychological Association (NHPA) and National Center for START Services, University of New Hampshire Institute on Disability. NHPA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
